Austin police on Friday identified two women who died this week after a crash in Southeast Austin.
Officers responded just before midnight Tuesday to a crash at the intersection of the northbound service road of Texas 130 and the westbound service road of Texas 71.
Investigators said Margarita Escalante Ibarra, 23, was driving along the westbound service road of Texas 71 when she ran a red light and struck a freight fuel truck.
Ibarra and a passenger in the vehicle, 22-year-old Alejandra Berenice-Sanabria-Alejandro, died at the scene, police said.
The driver of the fuel truck was uninjured, according to authorities. No charges are expected.
The deaths bring the number of traffic fatalities in Austin this year to 27, according to Austin police. There were 18 fatalities at this time last year.
