Mark Bentley is a professional footballer that currently plays for Gillingham FC in League One of English football. Bentley plays in the position of midfield, and has been playing for Gillingham now since May 2006.

Beginning his career with Enfield in 1998, Bentley was able to establish himself strongly in non-league football, and in 1999 moved on to play for Aldershot Town. Three years Mark Bentley spent with Aldershot, and with the club he continued to impress and improve as a player. Scoring 14 goals in 68 appearances; Mark Bentley was really able to make a name for himself, and in 2002 he moved on to play for Gravesend and Northfleet. Mark Bentley was soon to move away from non-league football however, and in January 2004 Mark Bentley entered the Football League for the first time in his career in joining Southend United.

Initially loaned out to Dagenham & Redbridge to gain further experience; Bentley went on to make 93 league appearances for Southend, scoring 12 goals in the process. He'd already proven his worth in non-league football, he was now making a name for himself in the Football League however, and showing that he had the talent to cut it at a higher level. Mark Bentley really is an excellent midfielder, and although he was offered a new contract with Southend at the end of the 2005/06 season; Bentley instead opted to join Gillingham, and has been with the club ever since.

Now aged 31, Mark Bentley has made more than 100 league appearances for Gillingham, and is still going very strong as a player. He always has a lot to offer on the football field, and always when Mark Bentley plays you know that he'll give the game his all. He's a player that is not afraid to put in a tackle, and has been known to score some quality goals also. Bentley really is a tricky player to play against, and was a key part of the Gillingham team when the club was promoted via the League Two play-offs at the end of the 2008/09 season.

Mark Bentley may not be getting any younger, he's a hugely experienced player however, and certainly never disappoints on the football field. Mark Bentley truly is an excellent midfielder, and has done Gillingham Football Club proud in the three years that he has spent with the club so far. I'm sure Mark Bentley will continue to be heavily involved heading into the 2009/10 season, and hopefully there will be more success to come for the player yet in the future.
