Paul Anthony Dy Artadi or simply Paul Artadi to local basketball enthusiasts is a Filipino professional basketball player, currently under contract with the Philippine Basketball Association’s (PBA) B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados – Purefoods Tender Juicy Franchise. Artadi, nicknamed as “kid lightning” due to his remarkable speed and agility, is one of the most popular and exciting basketball players in the recent history of Philippine basketball.

Artadi was born on May 5, 1981 in the University of Santo Tomas (UST) hospital. Hence, the kamikaze, no-nonsense skipper grew up in the outskirts of San Juan, Metro Manila playing pick-up games with much taller and much stronger playground legends. Nevertheless, the determined Artadi worked hard to improve his game en route to him landing a spot in the vaunted University of the East (UE) Red Warriors team – one of the most successful and historic collegiate basketball team in the country.

During his stint playing for the Red Warriors in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP,) Artadi became an instant hardcourt and campus icon as he teamed up with the highly-touted scoring ace James Yap. Artadi’s partnership with Yap produced several final four appearances, hundreds of three-point shots converted courtesy of Yap, hundreds of assists courtesy of Artadi and millions of fans who became followers of perhaps the most celebrated back court tandem in the 73-year history of the Philippine’s premier collegiate basketball league.

In 2003, both Artadi and Yap was selected to be part of the RP national team bound to compete in that year’s edition of the Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) in Vietnam. The popularity of the dynamic duo of Artadi and Yap further grew as they were the main gunners of the Gold medal-winning RP team.

The following year, Artadi decided to enter the PBA draft. He was selected as 11th overall pick by the Purefoods franchise, amazingly his back court partner Yap who was the second overall pick of that same draft was also selected by the same Purefoods franchise – relieving their long-time partnership in the amateurs.

Artadi played his first three seasons with Purefoods where he together with the likes of Yap, Kerby Raymundo, Noy Castillo and Rey Evangelista entered the finals on two occasions while winning it all in the import-laden cup.

During his fourth year, Artadi was traded to the Brgy. Ginebra Kings where he blossomed despite playing backup to start point guard Jayjay Helterbrand.

In the current 2009-2010 season, Artadi was sent back to Purefoods. Thus, his partnership with King James was rejuvenated en route to another All-Filipino Championship in what many considered as one of the greatest Cinderella story in the 35-year history of the PBA.
