You are not really riding you road bike. You are driving it, and there are rules of safety to follow, alone or in a group.
Riding off road, you may not have cars or traffic deal with, but there are still ways to ride safely and courteously.
Look up the specific rules of the road for your state.

There are many issues with your bicycle that you can fix yourself, even if you are not an expert.  Some are pretty simple.  My list certainly is not complete, but I did spend time to present a solid representation.
