A cafe owner in Baltimore is asking for help to find the driver who plowed into her outdoor dining area overnight.

The incident was captured on camera. The owner, Anna Leventes, said she spent Sunday morning cleaning up the mess left behind.

“It’s really unfortunate that they could do something like this. Apparently, their mother did not raise them properly, but they thought that they could stop at the end of the block and clear some of the debris off their car, but they did leave part of their bumper here. And I just think it’s just terrible because small businesses are struggling in this situation,” Leventes said.

Leventes said her cameras captured the moment of impact right before 1 a.m. Sunday at the Sobo Cafe on West Cross Street in Federal Hill. The video shows the driver almost hit a parked car before speeding away.

“I had tears in my eyes. It’s just this whole situation has been so frustrating,” she said. “We had sun seals up and we had additional lighting, some of it was ripped out. And we had ladders coming all the way across. I would say at least 60% of it was destroyed.”

Leventes told 11 News she isn’t sure if the driver was impaired but said she believes the man was driving a white Nissan Altima because he left his bumper at the scene.

A witness came by and provided more information about the driver, his car and what happened when police arrived.

“Our house is right there and we heard a little ‘skuuurrrr’ and then a bang,” the witness said.

“This November will be nine years since I purchased it,” Leventes said.

Like many businesses nationwide, COVID-19 is crippling the Federal Hill restaurant.

“Twenty-percent of our business was catering. We’ve lost all of the catering. We’re just struggling at this point,” Leventes said.

City police told 11 News that a report was filed and they are investigating.
