Two killed, four others injured in two-vehicle crash on I-80 near Joslin

JOSLIN, Ill. (KWQC) – Two people were killed and four others were injured Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash near Joslin.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on Interstate 88 westbound, the Illinois State Police said in a media release.

According to state police, the preliminary investigation indicates that a 2006 Black Jeep Liberty was driving eastbound on I-88 when, for an unknown reason, it veered off the roadway, traveled through the center median and overturned.

The jeep struck a westbound 2017 White Ford Edge head-on and came to a rest on its roof in the westbound lanes of traffic, according to state police.

The Ford came to a stop facing eastbound in the westbound lanes of traffic.

The driver of the Jeep, Songolo Lolonga, 38, of Rock Island, and passenger Wilonja M. Mashimango, 27, also of Rock Island, were killed in the crash.

Axtell HS baseball coach killed in single-vehicle wreck

AXTELL, TX — An Axtell High School baseball coach died in a single-vehicle accident while visiting friends.

Axtell ISD Superintendent Dr. JR Proctor announced the passing of Cameron Bankston in a Facebook post on Friday.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I announce the passing of our beloved coach Cameron Bankston. Last night Coach Bankston passed away in a single vehicle accident in Huckabay, Texas, while visiting friends,” Superintendent Proctor said.
“Coach Bankston came to Axtell just a single year ago, and had already made an unmistakable impact on our school. Please keep his family and loved ones in your prayers.”

Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Northern Kentucky on Wednesday.Police responded to the crash at KY-18 near the intersection of Ewing Boulevard in Florence, Kentucky, around 6:18 p.m.According to the Florence Police Department, after investigating, police learned Brian Smith, 43, of Union, Kentucky, was driving his Lexus SUV westbound on KY-18. For unknown reasons, the SUV crossed into eastbound traffic hitting a Chevrolet Equinox SUV, which was occupied by a driver and a passenger.All three people involved in the crash were taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment. Officials identify 18-year-old passenger killed in crash involving Louisville EMS vehicle

Officials have released the name of the man who was killed in a crash involving a Louisville EMS unit in south Louisville.On Friday, a deputy coroner identified the victim as Dylan Norwell, 18. According to officials, the accident happened around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. They say a white SUV was traveling southbound on Taylor Boulevard when it drove over into the northbound lane and struck a Louisville EMS unit at the intersection of Bicknell Avenue.Norwell, who was a passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was transported in critical condition. The LMPD Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.

16-year-old killed in two-vehicle crash in Bessemer Monday night

A Jefferson County teenager was killed in a two-vehicle accident Monday night in Bessemer.The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the decedent as Taylor Ronald Akin, 16, of Adger.Akin was a passenger in a Chevrolet Camaro that was traveling south on 15th Street Road near the CCC Camp Road intersection.The Camaro collided with a Chevrolet pick-up truck that was also traveling south on 15th Street Road, according to the police report.The collision caused the Camaro to roll multiple times and come to a stop of the shoulder of the road.Akin was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.The driver of the Camaro was taken to an area hospital.

Former Port Talbot steelworker who loved taking part in sport killed when his bicycle collided with a car

A retired steelworker and dad described as a “well-known character” died when his bicycle collided with a car.

Philip Bamsey, known as Phil, died following the crash which happened in Afan Way, Port Talbot, at around 2pm on Wednesday, April 15.

The 67-year-old had worked at the steelworks in Port Talbot as a metallurgist from the age of 17 until he was aged 60.

He has left behind his wife Jan and his son Chris, as well as his siblings Diane, Ken, Dennis, Robert and Malcolm. Sadly his younger sister Elaine died two years ago.

His family have described Mr Bamsey as a “well-known character” who would “take the time to speak with anyone”.

In a tribute they said: “Phil had a love for all sports and in particular running, having been a member of the Neath Harriers club for many years.

Police ID women killed after vehicle hit fuel truck in Southeast Austin – News – Austin American-Statesman

Austin police on Friday identified two women who died this week after a crash in Southeast Austin.

Officers responded just before midnight Tuesday to a crash at the intersection of the northbound service road of Texas 130 and the westbound service road of Texas 71.

Investigators said Margarita Escalante Ibarra, 23, was driving along the westbound service road of Texas 71 when she ran a red light and struck a freight fuel truck.

Ibarra and a passenger in the vehicle, 22-year-old Alejandra Berenice-Sanabria-Alejandro, died at the scene, police said.

The driver of the fuel truck was uninjured, according to authorities. No charges are expected.

The deaths bring the number of traffic fatalities in Austin this year to 27, according to Austin police. There were 18 fatalities at this time last year.

Des Moines police ID woman killed, man injured in three-vehicle crash

The Des Moines Police Department confirmed Tuesday the identities of a woman killed, and man injured in a three-vehicle crash in the metro. 1 person killed in 3-vehicle wreck in Independence, MO

One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Independence Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

The wreck happened just before 3:45 p.m. at 39th Street and Little Blue Parkway.

According to a statement from Independence police, a 2011 Ford Taurus that was traveling north on Little Blue Parkway turned into the path of a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado and a 1999 Ford F-150 truck traveling south.

The driver of the Ford Taurus was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s name was not immediately released, pending family notification.

Occupants in the Chevrolet Silverado were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Ford F-150 was not injured.

Police said the crash remains under investigation.
