Axtell HS baseball coach killed in single-vehicle wreck

AXTELL, TX — An Axtell High School baseball coach died in a single-vehicle accident while visiting friends.

Axtell ISD Superintendent Dr. JR Proctor announced the passing of Cameron Bankston in a Facebook post on Friday.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I announce the passing of our beloved coach Cameron Bankston. Last night Coach Bankston passed away in a single vehicle accident in Huckabay, Texas, while visiting friends,” Superintendent Proctor said.
“Coach Bankston came to Axtell just a single year ago, and had already made an unmistakable impact on our school. Please keep his family and loved ones in your prayers.”

Axtell ISD says they know this is a very difficult time for everyone involved, and if you or your child are in distress, please do not hesitate to contact High School Counselor Ashley Hardin through email at ahardin@axtellisd.net, and she will arrange for a virtual counseling session.
