Beyond The Bicycle Coalition

WHO ARE WE?

The Beyond the Bicycle Coalition is an initiative set up in 2017. We are a group representing users of non-standard cycles (e.g. handcycles, e-cycles, cargobikes) with the aim of facilitating discussion and developing ideas that will lead to improved infrastructure, facilities and recognition, along with reduced user costs, for users of non-standard cycles in London – including, but not limited to, disabled, cargo, freight and family cyclists.

WHY “BEYOND THE BICYCLE”?

The sheer variety of cycles available, the diversity of people using them and the amazing range of uses people have for their cycles takes us beyond the standard image of a “bicycle”. However, it’s also about people using cycles for mobility; it’s about cycling being easier than walking for many people; it’s about being able to use cycles for transporting people and goods; and it’s about families being able to use cycles for transport as an

Every United fan has their own favourite goal from the Premier League era, with unforgettable hits lighting up each of the 13 title triumphs achieved under Sir Alex Ferguson.

We’ve picked out eight of the very best, all of which came during the Ferguson era – a time when goals were easier to come by than they have been of late for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

It was the opening day of the 1996-97 season and Ferguson gave

Like a Fish Needs a Bicycle: For Some People, Intimacy Is Toxic

It is practically an article of faith among psychotherapists that an intimate human relationship is good for you. None other than Freud himself once famously said that health requires success in work and in love.

I’m not so sure. It seems that for some people, love and intimacy might not just be undesirable but downright toxic.

Not long ago, a man consulted me about his 35-year-old son, who had made a suicide attempt.

“I was shocked, because he never seemed depressed or unhappy in his life,” the man said of his son. “He always preferred his own company, so we were relieved when he started to date.”

He went on to tell me that he and his wife had strongly encouraged their son to become engaged to a woman he was dating. “She was perfect for him,” he recalled. “Warm, intelligent and affectionate.”

Everything seemed to be going well until,

Bicycle seats vs. bike trailers for children

Q: I’m in the market to buy a bicycle seat so I can ride my bike with my 1 year old. Which is safer—a bicycle-mounted seat or a bike trailer?

A: Both types of bicycle seats have their safety issues. Because of its low profile, a bicycle trailer, which attaches to the rear axle or frame of a bike and can transport one child age 1 to 6 or so, can be difficult for motorists to see, especially in limited light. (If you go this route, get a 31/2 -foot- to 7-foot-tall, high-visibility orange flag for it.) Trailers are also wider than the bike, so they take up more of the roadway. If you’re riding on the shoulder of a road, which we don’t recommend because we consider trailers “off-road” vehicles, the trailer can stick out into the road if you’re not careful. And trailers can tip over if you

MADISON – Joe Hedstrom feared the worst when he learned the details of the gruesome injuries his father suffered during a bicycle accident on April 5 in Minnesota.

Peter Hedstrom suffered a traumatic brain injury, a skull fracture, a broken collarbone, three broken ribs, bruised lungs and a fractured ear canal.

“Once you hear that you break down a little bit,” Hedstrom, a redshirt freshman center on the Wisconsin men’s basketball team, said by phone Tuesday. “Your thoughts when things happen like that tend to go to the worst-case scenario. So, I definitely thought about things like that.”

About losing his father, who is only 59.

Later that night, doctors delivered an encouraging update.

UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital nurse cries tears of joy after strangers help her replace stolen bicycle

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — A nurse working at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital finished a 12-hour shift on Tuesday morning only to find that her bicycle had been stolen. Vanessa Nguyen says it was locked up inside a caged area with other bikes located in the hospital’s garage.

She posted her frustrations online and hours later ABC7 News Reporter J.R. Stone took things a bit farther by posting pictures of the bicycle on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Within hours the Bay Area responded. Dozens of random people offering bicycles and money to Nguyen.

She says she wasn’t looking for anything but was overwhelmed by the amazing responses, so much so that she broke down crying when we spoke with her. As someone who is used to caring for children, she says she still can’t believe that the community cared enough to help her.

“The outpouring of love from people I’ve never
